color / texture / form – a jewelry invitational: Ann Chikahisa's bold, strong jewelry has been a Click! favorite since our last invitational two years ago. She is bringing an expanded collection from her South Park studio for this year's event.
Ann shared some thoughts with us about following her passion and embracing pyromania:
How would you describe what you make?
I make modern handmade jewelry that celebrates organic shapes and textures.
Can you tell us about your favorite piece in your current collection?
Ohhhh that’s tough. My personal favorite are my stacking rings which I wear every day. But my new favorite necklace is the bronze oval wrap necklace with a black diamond.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
To follow your passion. We spend so much time at work, we should spend it doing something we love to do. Wouldn’t you agree?
What inspired you to make Jewelry?
I have always loved making things with my hands. Becoming a metalsmith was a happy accident. I took a class at a local art center and it was pure joy. I think it’s because I’m a pyromaniac at heart.
If you could collaborate with anyone living or not, who would it be and why?
Oh… I’d have to say Isamu Noguchi. I am a huge fan of his work and how he creates such beauty from simplicity.
