Frances: Art and Alzheimer's

Frances: Art and Alzheimer's

October's featured artist is our own Frances Smersh. Fourteen years ago it was Frances's idea to open a contemporary design boutique in West Seattle. Three and a half years ago Frances was diagnosed with young-onset Alzheimer's Disease.   You may have seen Frances in the shop, perhaps wearing her painting smock, usually eager to visit and say hello, maybe talk about products in the store, sometimes at a loss to find her words. Anniversary Party!

Let's celebrate! Fourteen years of Design That Fits in West Seattle is a pretty good reason for a party. It was 2004 when Frances and John Smersh, touring the wholesale and retail handmade circuit with Frances's jewelry, had the realization that there were probably a lot of other people in their neighborhood who would love the work they were discovering in their travels. September 28th Wine Walk Featuring Dolcetta

September 28th Wine Walk Featuring Dolcetta

Wine and chocolate? Yes please. During the upcoming West Seattle Wine Walk (September 28, 5p-9p - tickets available here), Mercer Estates winery will be joining (our favorite!) locally made Dolcetta Artisan Sweets for a wine-and-chocolate-tasting-extravaganza. We caught up with Andrea, the founder of Dolcetta and asked her a few questions about her delectable sweet treats:  How would you describe what you make? I describe Dolcetta as premium handcrafted confections.  I start with premium chocolates and transform them into truffles and flavored bars. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? I guess the best piece of advice was 'charge...

Erik Railton September Art Walk

Erik Railton September Art Walk

Erik grew up on the Oregon coast, spending time outside in nature.  He continues to find himself drawn to the color, texture and shapes of plants and other natural objects that first attracted him. His paintings are constructed of both abstract and realistic values, leaving the viewer to contemplate how the painting relates to the "real" world.  Meet Erik at Click! on Thursday September 13th, from 5 – 8p, during West Seattle Art Walk. How would you describe what you make?My recent paintings are based on nature being made into geometric shapes and colors. It contrasts the perfection of geometry with the messiness and beauty of nature. Can you tell us about...
