If you’ve visited Click! in the last few weeks, you’ll have noticed some new lighting adorning our storefront. Meet Graypants, a Seattle-based design company that’s transforming scrap corrugated cardboard into well-designed and eco-friendly lighting.
“Disc” pendant lamp
We love the clean design and the amazing shadows that these lights create, and it doesn’t hurt that they’re eco-friendly and locally made, too! See more images and info here.
“Callisto” pendant lamp
We are currently stocking the Disc lamp (12″ diameter, $279) and the Callisto lamp (10″ diameter, $229) in both hardwire and swag configurations. Other styles will be available to order.
From personal experience, I know that keeping up with a seasonal fashion schedule is tough as a designer/maker. Coming out with fresh, compelling design at least twice a year is challenging on it’s own but designing is only the beginning! A maker needs to source and inventory new materials, teach new techniques to assistants who will help with making, document and price pieces accordingly and promote the new work in order to have a successful season. Hats off to the Queen Bee crew! They do it so well and we are happy to have their summer handbags and wallets in store at Click!
Shown are “puddle jump” Truckette $98, and “loops” Maximo wallet $48
Also selected bags from fall/winter discounted 20%! (including those awesome industrial felt bags!)
Often times customers will recommend products to us, which they are usually apologetic about. As it turns out, we love to hear from our peeps when they find Design That Fits.
One such recent recommendation was the Mighty Wallet. Mighty Wallet™ is a Tyvek® wallet that is water-resistant, tear-resistant, recyclable, and made of recycled materials. At only $15 each, they make a great little gift for your Valentine.
We have several designs available in the store, and hope to have them available for purchase online soon. Please call or email to order if you are not in our area. UPDATE: Select designs are now available for purchase from our web store. Call or email if the design you want is not show there.
This will be a short entry. We’ve carried Envirosax bags at Click! since 2007. They are great little gifts, for this post, let’s call them stocking stuffers shall we? For $9.50 you can pat yourself on the back for giving a beautiful, practical and environmentaly smart gift. The reason I am writing about them at this moment? cool new designs. Just a few of them are pictured below. There are lots more! See you soon.
Click! and Dinah Coops have been trying to get together for quite a while and it’s finally happened. We knew we loved her aesthetic but didn’t know how perfect the match was until the work was in our grabby little hands.
table mat $35, two napkins $32.
In her own words, “I work toward efficiency in materials, labor and energy; use less toxic materials and those made in the Northwest whenever possible; and create things that last and are made from recycled or quickly renewable materials.”
hemp/cotton dish towels $19.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to come in and see them for yourself or for someone on your list. It is rare to find function so seamlessly entwined in art that you have to consider whether to dry your hands with it or frame it. Thanks Dinah!
Cookies and Cake oh my! There are so many beautiful treats around this time of year and I just found a way to make them look even more tempting…cookie and cake plates by Stylegarden. Made in Tacoma of carefully procured vintage dishware, they are certainly useful around the Holidays and will probably resurface frequently during the rest of the year. If you ask nicely, we may give you a chocolate when you buy one…even if the plate is a gift for your friend.
This Sunday is Father’s Day, and you’re probably scrambling to find a decent gift for your dad, or the father of your children. Either way, he is, of course, notoriously difficult to shop for.
Bottle openers: nothing says “you deserve to kick back and pop a cold one” quite like these hand screened bottle openers from FluffyCo. With authentic Starr X hardware, he’ll stay refreshed for years.
But what if he’s more of a wine guy? Two words: Cork Cufflinks. Or is that three? Depends on how you spell cuff link.
Or perhaps he’s more into martinis?
OK, that’s all fine and good… what if he doesn’t drink alchohol? We’re going to stay on a liquid theme and suggest a solid ceramic coffee press.
But if you really loved him, you’d buy him this chair made of reclaimed plywood scraps from Austin, TX based ref-use:
All items are in-stock at Click!. The pictures link to details.
As recently reported in a story in the Seattle Times, we are a drop-off site for the Women’s Shelter Jewelry Project, a program started by our former studio partner Micki Lippe. Drop off your unwanted jewelry at Click!, in any condition, and a group of jewelers from the Seattle Metals Guild will love it into shape and donate it to a number of different charities, most of which assist women who are victims of domestic violence or are otherwise disadvantaged.
As Micki says in the Times article, “Something as simple as a pair of earrings or a brooch can brighten a mood or make a woman feel special”, and this is an easy way to cheer up someone who really needs it.
One of our favorite local blogs is West Seattle based Mixed Greens. With a focus on local food, a philosophy of sustainability, and beautiful photography, the gals at Mixed Greens provide recipes, sources for local produce, and some great musings. Now they’ve published their first calendar!
Each page is 4 1/4″ x 11″, printed on 100% post consumer recycled fiber photo paper with fine archival ink and is held together with a magnet clip for hanging. They’ve printed recipes on the back 2 cards for easy reference and storage. We have them at Click! for $21 — a great gift with local roots.
I’ve noticed that people really are shopping early this year so I’ve decided to help out by writing a series of “list” blogs, starting with this group of stocking stuffers. The art of giving the perfect gift is a difficult one to perfect, but we’re here to help. The ever popular ENVIROSAX BAG • $9.50 Open they measure 19.5″ by 16.5″, rolled up, a mere 3.5″ by 1.5″. Everyone who has one loves them. Love is good. Reusing bags is good. Give them to everyone you know. World peace will soon manifest itself all over the planet as a result of your wise and generous gifting.BOOK DARTS • $8.50 Not just the page, mark the actual line that you want to get back to. It’s no longer necessary to beat up the poor book by bending page corners and marking it all up with those hideous highlighter colors. A nice little tin of 50 archivally correct Book Darts will make the avid readers on your list very content.ORLA KIELY FLIP BOOKS • $5.25 Just the perfect place to jot down a few thoughts, a grocery list or the phone number of that cute guy you met at the grocery store. Interestingly, they pair up really well with any of our Orla Kiely handbags (which do not fit into the “under $10″ category). DOG AND CAT MAGNETS • $9.00/set of four There are Dog people and there are Cat people. We have Dog magnets and Cat magnets by local designers Three by Three. Any gift that takes care of a category is useful around the holidays. We hope this “themed” gift idea helps you check a few people off your list. (FYI, we also carry lots of 3 x 3 magnet boards, hooks and picture frames. They are all reasonably priced and really cool.)TEA LIGHTS • TAPERS • $8.50 Really a catch all gift around this time of year. We get our beeswax candles from our friends at Bluecorn Naturals in Colorado. They burn clean, come in yummy colors; Pistachio, Ruby and Creme. There will be more handy lists to come…it’s that time of year.
25% off for mentioning The Cart Project $36.75 [UPDATE 9/14/08: Cart Project promotion is over. Carts will be available on our e-commerce site soon.]
Surfing the West Seattle Blog (a favorite pastime here at Click), we were delighted to encounter an article about The Cart Project. This program encourages Westwood Village shoppers to use wheeled handcarts to run shopping errands rather than driving to and fro. Until the project expands to the rest of West Seattle, we’ve decided to encourage this great idea by discounting our lovely shopping trolley selection. Just come in and mention the The Cart Project and receive 25% off the purchase of one of these sturdy, stylin’ little numbers. [UPDATE 9/14/08: Cart Project discount no longer available]
Personal Testimonial – John and I have had our trolley for over a year now. We carry quite a load between home and Click! Zara, (we’ve named her) has saved our backs. Farmer’s Market? Go ahead and buy a sack of potatoes, some beets and a bunch of flowers. It all fits and it will be a much more enjoyable walk home.
These are hanging in the window at Click! right now. Classic shape, contemporary material… such a great combination. They caught my eye as I walked into the Lazy Susan booth at the New York International Gift Fair in summer. When I heard that they were constructed of recycled polycarbonate, I was sold. Medium $134, measures 12.5 x 6″, large $152, measures 16 x 6″. Small is not currently in stock but measures 9.5″ by 6″ and can be special ordered for $115. Power cord included.
