If you’re like us, you love a little bubblie on a summer evening, and you also like helping out great organizations. The summer evening of Thursday, August 27th, we will be sipping sparkling wine and raising awareness and funding for the most excellent peeps at Girls on the Run of Puget Sound. From 6 to 9 pm we will be sampling several different effervescent beverages, and donating 10% of all Click! purchases directly to Girls on the Run.
Girls on the Run is an afterschool program for girls in third through fifth grade. It is ostensibly about running, but at its core it is about giving young girls the skills they need to survive their coming teen years. As such it teaches self-esteem, healthy living and positive body image in the context of a running program.
They will be starting two new programs this year in West Seattle. Join us in supporting them, and consider volunteering. Be sure to see our newsletter here, if you’d like you can subscribe here.

We’ve spent the last week in New York City, kicking the pants off of the trade show and wholesale showrooms to find everything that we can’t find locally. This means that Click! is going to have some sweet merchandise coming into the shop for fall and winter, including new home decor from our favorites FluffyCo (bottle openers, wallets), Modern Twist (place mats, coasters), and Three by Three Seattle (yes, we order from them in New York, it’s just easier that way, don’t ask us why, but for crying out loud they’ve got DRY ERASE BAMBOO MAGNET BOARDS which are genius; all we can do is love them). We also found some sweet new items, including table runners, holiday ornaments, cocktail shakers, and much more, that we promise to document for you here just as soon as we can get our hands on some images.
Oh and hey ladies, you should note that we have not only ordered the new fall lines of Orla Kiely and Highway handbags, we’ve finally added Portland’s finest Queen Bee handbags. We’ve always loved their designs, but didn’t like that they were made of PVC. They’ve gone to a much more eco-friendly leather alternative and we LOVE THEM.
New work will be arriving at the store within a week or so; we’ll continue getting fresh new pieces in until holiday madness begins in just a few short months.

May (detail). Actual piece 12 x 12
Gail Howard will be our August artist. You can check her work out here, but don’t miss her West Seattle Artwalk opening at Click! from 6 to 9pm on Thursday, August 13th. Her paintings really must be seen in person to be appreciated and beside that you’ll enjoy having a glass of wine and chatting with her. She’s been a Click! customer for ages and we are really excited to have both her and her work in the store.

West Seattle Blog coverage of GOTR, August 1st.
Also, try to catch those Girls on the Run from 6 to 9pm on Thursday August 27th! While tasting several lovely sparkling wine selections, you can find out about this excellent nonprofit and it’s mission to “Educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.” Click! will donate 10% of all sales during the event to Girls on the Run – pretty good motivation to do a little shopping. Gail’s work will still be at Click! if you aren’t able to make her opening.

Last week we fired off a quick post about the Thomas Paul wool rugs we are now carrying. LOVE THEM – Rugmark certified, and certifiably gorgeous. Right now we’re focusing on three patterns in the store: Souk, Seed, and Parasol, in 3′x5′, 5′x8′, and the 2.5′x7′ runner, but we can order any size and style… and get them in pretty quickly (about 1-2 weeks for our last order). Check out the TP website for the full line, then get in here and feel that 100% New Zealand wool between your toes.
Souk: We love this pattern because it looks like a classic design, but cut and cropped in an unusual manner… which makes it more contemporary. This would fit perfectly in our 1922 house with our grandparents’ furniture, and update it nicely.

Seed: Botanical elements in design are something we just don’t get tired of.

Parasols: No one can be uncheered with one of these bright, beautiful rugs in her or his life.

Pricing:
- 3′x5′ $270
- 2.5′x7′ runner $338
- 5′x8′ $676
- 8′ round $1082
- 8′x11′ $1466

Ever wonder what would happen if they closed California Avenue and put up a bunch of canopies with an odd assortment of artists, businesses and musicians? You can get your answer this weekend, as the West Seattle Junction folks do just that. We’ll be joining them in an effort to spread the good word that is Click! to the unwashed masses. Our booth will be near Cupcake Royale, just north of California and Alaska.
Why go to Summerfest? You can see Mudhoney for free. You can see Omar Torrez at the Elliott Bay Brewery. You can come to the Click! booth and get 20% off Smersh Design Jewelry and Orla Kiely Handbags, and take home a coupon for 15% off your next purchase at Click! Design That Fits. Or, you could just bring us a drink to help us survive our return to the summer swap meet battleground. We’ll probably need it.

This Sunday is Father’s Day, and you’re probably scrambling to find a decent gift for your dad, or the father of your children. Either way, he is, of course, notoriously difficult to shop for.
Bottle openers: nothing says “you deserve to kick back and pop a cold one” quite like these hand screened bottle openers from FluffyCo. With authentic Starr X hardware, he’ll stay refreshed for years.

But what if he’s more of a wine guy? Two words: Cork Cufflinks. Or is that three? Depends on how you spell cuff link.

Or perhaps he’s more into martinis?

OK, that’s all fine and good… what if he doesn’t drink alchohol? We’re going to stay on a liquid theme and suggest a solid ceramic coffee press.

But if you really loved him, you’d buy him this chair made of reclaimed plywood scraps from Austin, TX based ref-use:

All items are in-stock at Click!. The pictures link to details.

We’ve had these in the store (and on the blog) before, but we just received a new shipment after being sold out for several months. Best of all, we have finally added them to our web store!
It seems the artist, Hennig Dyes, is getting on in his years, so we’re not sure how long these will be available for — he is threatening to retire. Hennig is German-born but lives in Costa Rica; he says these lamps are inspired by Norwegian design. They are made from sustainably harvested plantation pine grown in Costa Rica.
There are two sizes and they come complete with wiring for either temporary “swag” (plug/switch) or permanent (“hard-wired”) installation. But the best thing is how warm and cozy the light is… even the cool light of a compact florescent bulb is warmed to a very pleasant glow. Small (pictured) $120, large $205.

We stayed late tonight getting things ready for the big sale tomorrow. The big highlight is definitely the “seconds” jewelry. We spent the last couple of days going through the drawer of misfit jewelry and remade some sad lonely bits into new pieces, ready to be loved for a bargain. (more…)

This Saturday, May 9th is West Seattle Community Garage Sale day. There are hundreds of sales including individuals, groups of neighbors, and many businesses. We’ll be participating by taking our sale and clearance items out to the sidewalk, marked at half price or even less. And we’re not just talking about Christmas ornaments here. There will be previous season’s handbags from Orla Kiely and others, the Angela Adams wool rugs that we’re not able to carry any more, handmade pottery, picture frames, and much much more.
The highlight for many is the sale jewelry. Each year, we dig through our drawers and find the sad and lonely pieces looking for a home: the prototypes that never made it into production, the “seconds” that have a minor blemish, the discontinued designs, and the single earrings that have lost their mate. We price these to be very affordable, and they usually go fast.
We will open at 9am on Saturday for all you early birds, as that is when Garage Sale Day officially kicks off. See you then!

Our friend Stephanie Hargrave recently introduced us to Roger Shurtleff and we are so grateful! He is a really stand up guy, a solid artist and as a result of our introduction he is our featured artist for May.
Roger tends to paint a series of pieces around a theme before changing out his brushes and paints to approach another idea or story. We checked out pieces from several of his series. I was struck by the way he is able to reference previous imagery but make it completely relevant in its new context. There is a graceful evolution about his paintings.
We will have work from Ghostland.

Flyover 16 x 16″
We will also have his latest series, Tools of the Trade.

Finisher 12 x 12″
Join us for the West Seattle Artwalk, Thursday May 14 from 6 to 9pm. We’ll open some bubbly, have some bites and chat with Roger. Oh…you can also do some shopping and perhaps even aquire one of Roger’s paintings.

Remember that beautiful credenza by urbancase that we had upstairs at Click?

Before they head to NY and the ICFF show, the urbancase designers will unveil their new line of contemporary furniture, lighting, and home accessories tonight at Cairo Gallery. The preview is from 7 to 9pm and the gallery is located at 507 East Mercer at the corner of Summit and Mercer on Capitol Hill. John and I will boogie out of Click! promptly at 7 this evening. Hope to see you there!

Spring is here in Seattle, and we’ve just received a handful of shipments. It’s always nice to freshen up the store with new product, and somehow when the sun is coming through the window everything looks and feels all shiny new.
The kids at Savannah College of Art and Design came up with these fantastic melamine plates, perfect for eating outside this summer (“I believe that is called al fresco“). This is a great program where students get real world experience by not just designing in a classroom, but by taking a product all the way to market. The veggies on these salad plates remind us that the farmer’s markets will be ramping up soon.

We also received a new order from San Francisco hipsters FluffyCo, who make the awesome bottle openers and key hooks that we love. There are new designs of both in our brick and mortar, and we will be expanding the choices in our web store soon.

And then there are the new spring bags from Highway. These have consistently been our most popular handbags, probably because they are at once sweetly stylish and super practical. They have lots of pockets and zippers and are beautifully designed in nylon and leather, some with designer Jem Filippi’s super-cute embroidery.

The Pratt Fine Art Auction takes place May 16th. It’s a grand event – amazing artwork and 700 or so art lovers celebrating and supporting the arts in Seattle by raising their bidder numbers. If you want to buy artwork, be inspired by artistic talent and the generosity of a crowd, get your tickets now and tell them you want to sit with Frances and John at the Click! table.
If you’re not certain that you can make it to the auction you still have the opportunity to get excited about the art and support Pratt at the same time.
Click! and Mission Latin Restaurant are hosting a sneak peek of artwork donated by talented West Seattle artists. Come out to the Admiral District on Tuesday April 21st from 6 to 9pm. Both businesses will have auction artwork displayed and will be donating 10% of product, food and drink sales to Pratt during the event.

Morula 7, Stephanie Hargrave

Many of you know that I have been on the Board of Trustees at Pratt Fine Arts for several years. Both John and I have taken classes in the studios at Pratt. Much of my jewelry education and inspiration happens at Pratt. Truly, if you’ve ever thought about taking a painting class, trying your hand at welding or even checking out little bit of everything, Pratt is the place to start exploring. We’ve always got catalogs in the store. Come by and we’ll tell you how great Pratt is.

We’ve carried Alena Hennessy’s designs before, and they flew out the door. We just received her spring line, and it includes some delightful cotton scarves and t-shirts.

I know, I know, we’re not exactly a clothing store. But it was hard to resist these for their super-soft cottony goodness, and the fantastic designs. Besides, Frances looks great in hers.
